The infant, toddler and preschool years are considered particularly important periods in later life, due to the high plasticity of the brain. Therefore, early detection of mental disorders and behavioral problems during the specific age periods can lead to the prevention of future possible consequences. The current research is a critical review of the international literature researches through which there will be explored ordinary mental disorders and behavioral problems of infants, toddlers and preschoolers that is of grate concern to parents and teachers. The research includes the study of a total of fifty-four surveys, which refer to certain mental disorders and behavioral problems. Most of them were conducted in the United Kingdom and the United States of America. The results that emerged revealed that mental disorders and behavioral problems may be manifested already from birth. Moreover, the majority of surveys showed that mental disorders and behavioral problems are more often detected in boys than in girls. Lastly, further investigation of the mental disorders and the behavioral problems is considered necessary, as it could contribute to the additional knowledge of psychopathology during the first years of life
