The subject field of this research contains the Curricula (APS) used in elementary schools and specifically the Greek language and Anthology textbooks, published in 1987 and 2006. In its theoretical part this thesis aims at highlighting the importance of children’s literature for kids and specifically the important role that it plays in transmitting gender representations to its young readers through its texts. Furthermore, the theoretical part of the thesis includes an analysis of the gender models and stereotypes that are valid in contemporary Greek society so that they can be compared with the results of the research. In the research part of this thesis we investigate the literary texts contained in the Greek Language and Anthology textbooks published in 1987 and 2006 for their gender representations. More specifically we investigate how the gender roles are represented in such texts in order to compare them with the standing social norms and stereotypes. Furthermore, we investigate the degree to which textbooks differ from one another with regard to the subject of gender representations, after the last two official changes in the school curricula.
