Critical literacy and advertising: a teaching proposal for fifth-grade primary school students (Master thesis)

Ιωάννου, Ελένη/ Ioannou, Eleni

This present study is an attempt to design and produce teaching material to help students understand the constructed and constructive character of advertising and realize that advertising is not a reflection but a construction of reality. The main objective is the development of students’ critical literacy in the fifth grade of primary school, where the language textbook contains a relevant chapter, since advertising constructs attitudes, values, behaviors and ideologies. In the context of reinforcing students’ critical approach towards advertising messages, our proposal includes the analysis and teaching exploitation of four TV advertisements
