Mathematics at work place: (Bachelor thesis)

Mathematics constitutes part of people's everyday and work life. In these contexts, different requirements lead people to using school and non-school strategies alike, consciously or unconsciously. A common element of these strategies is that they all aim at an operational implementation at every occasion. The present study looks at nine professionals’ conceptions about the nature, the learning and the teaching of mathematics, chosen on the basis of their educational level (low, middle and high level). In addition, the type of mathematical knowledge utilized in their everyday and professional lives is also examined. Our findings suggest the use of specific ‘mathematical’ practices in these contexts, which are formed at school, at work or due to personal circumstances. These practices differ depending on the professional practice and the level of education supporting it
