Reforms of education in Greece the last 100 years (Bachelor thesis)

The particular final year project report covers the topic of the changes that happened in Greek education in the time period of 1911-2011. In this period of time, which includes almost the whole 20th century and the first eleven years of 21st century, all the legislatives changes of education are recorded, described and analyzed in detail. The procedure of record and analysis, follows the chronological order, in which the changes happened. Meanwhile, all the factors that contributed in formation of the educational reality in every time period, are mentioned in detail. Throughout the project, it is observed that the reforms in education always caused flurries and were not easily accepted, because people were divided. In one side it was the people, who were more cautious and conservative and were afraid of the consequences. On the other side were the people, who were more progressive and supported the changes, because they believed in their positive perspective. The political forces, which have the authority in every time period, formed the educational system in a way that functioned, according to their will and needs, ignoring the real needs and weaknesses of the education in the country of Greece. But, the biggest problem was the fact that every, new government recanted partially or fully, the educational reforms that were legally institutionalized from the previous government. As a result, it is observed that there was a stagnation of the development in particular parameters as the issue of the language that was spoken and written or the structure of the school network and the connection of school with the labor market. In addition, the fact that, all the continuous and without the appropriate structures, reforms targeted mainly at issues about the command, the logistics and the curriculum did not give or bereaved the supply of students with useful knowledge and skills, the conformation of mature and sufficient citizens, who will have values like respect and collaboration. Furthermore, it is desired that school will be in the mind of students as something pretty and useful and not as an obligatory task, which makes them lose time and energy and provides them useless knowledge, nervousness and disappointment in case of failing in exams
