Over the past two decades, the Greek society has faced an waves of economic migrants, which have altered it’s demographic composition to a multilingual, multiethnic and multicultural society. Changes which take place in the social field, bring about changes in the educational field as well. Due to the influx of economic migrants from neighboring countries, the composition of the student population is characterized by linguistic and cultural diversity. This is the reason why traditional education should change into an intercultural one, which aims to develop intercultural communication between students of different cultures. Under these conditions, the phenomenon of acculturation is observed. This social phenomenon denotes the cultural adaptation of migrants and native population in the new multicultural society and also reflects the results of communication and contact between different cultures. This project focuses on the phenomenon of acculturation, which is examined from the immigrants’ perspective as a result of their attendance to the greek educational system. The aim of the survey is to highlight the way in which immigrants construct the meaning of their adaptation to the host society and to what extent this may signal the abandonment of their cultures and the denial of their national identity. The research aims to explore and identify acculturation strategies adopted by immigrants in Greece in order to cope with pressure and intercultural contact , and the impact of this choice on their adaptation to the host society. The methodological tool that we used was the semistructured interview and the sample consisted of adult immigrants who were not born in Greece but they grew up in Greece and were educated by the greek educational system. We used discourse analysis, in order analyze the data. The discourse analysis emphasizes the way that people "construct" their social world and their cultural environment
