Administrative and leading staff's training needs regarding special education issues : a qualitative approach in intercultural school units (Master thesis)

The main purpose of this study is to identify the views of educational executives about the necessity, organization and content of their training to Special Education. The evidence presented refer to the exploratory study of that subject through qualitative research, which has been prepared and conducted by an interview addressed to educational executives (school counselors, school principals and deputy principals), serving in Intercultural Schools of primary and secondary education at the Prefecture of Rodopi. Particularly, this qualitative study attempts to explore the training needs of school principals and deputy principals, who serve in primary and Secondary Schools of intercultural education, as well as of the school counselors, who are entrusted with the educational and scientific guidance of those schools regarding Special Education. The present dissertation records the positive attitude of the educational executives, pertaining to their training in issues of Intercultural and Special Education, who observe the absence of a respective training policy as well as the necessity to be trained in such issues, while at the same time they consider imperative the design of such training activities
