The image of the foreigner in the anthology textbooks of primary school: a comparative study in comparison to the changes of curiculla (Master thesis)

Στούρου, Ελένη/ Stourou, Eleni

The subject field of this research contains the Anthology textbooks of all grades of primary school from 1987 to 2006. The issue being studied is the foreigner image and the comparative examination between past (1987) and current (2006) manuals depending on the respective Curricula (D.E.P.P.S. - A.P.S.) as occurred in 1982 and in 2003. This period is characterized by profound social and political ferment with a direct impact on education, which reflects the image that gives the society to the foreigner of the 21st century. The work begins with a study of the concepts of identity and diversity and the langue’s role in their configuration. Subsequently, follow the examination of textbooks as ideology carrier and stereotypes that include the texts of the Anthology for the national «other». The ultimate goal of the research is to promote the study and commentary of the national "foreign image" in textbooks of Anthology from 1987 until today
