Audiovisual literacy and intercultural education: promoting understanding of the other through audiovisual literacy interventions (Master thesis)

The aim of the dissertation is to focus on and to promote some intercultural education issues through audio-visual literacy. Within said framework it was examined the influence of an independent variable (i.e. the researcher’s teaching) over a dependent variable as is the student’s performance. Questionnaires at the begining and end of the educational interference were deployed for the evaluation. The experiment was conducted over a team of University students enrolled in the fourth year of studies in the Department of Education Sciences in Early Childhood” at Democritus University of Thrace. The context provided by the researcher concerns two scientific fields: Audio-visual Literacy (Media Literacy) and Intercultural Education, as well as their intersection point in terms of education practice. The data processing showed that indeed there is an impact on students’ performance (knowledge and stances) upon the completion of the educational interference. The methodology could be implemented as a pilot program or used as a guide for larger experiments in terms of duration and the sample population
