Classroom management in kindergarten: theoretical and empirical approach (Master thesis)

Classroom management in kindergarten is a very important issue for the educational community. Preschool teachers face many and different kinds of forms and tension problems in their classes. In the context of their educational work, prevention, treatment and resolution of such troublesome situations are included. The aim of this paper is to explore Greek-language and foreign-language literature and draw conclusions about the factors that play a role in preschool class management. In particular, the theoretical part of this work refers to the concepts of "school class", "preschool classroom" and "classroom management". Also, there is a detailed presentation of the factors which make preschool class management efficient, along with the prevention and dealing strategies of problems that come up during their lessons. In the empirical part of this work, there has been a collection, analysis and interpretation of the data gathered with the research tool of a questionnaire from 143 preschool teachers of the Prefecture of Kavala was carried out. In particular, the following were investigated: a) the importance that preschool teachers point to the issue of preschool classroom management; b) the views preschool teachers hold on factors that contribute to proper management of preschool classes: c) the preschool teacher’s behavior towards classroom management d) the views of preschool teachers concerning techniques of prevention and treatment that can be applied during learning processes and e) the causes that disrupt classroom function on a daily basis. Research findings show that the introduction of classroom rules in conjunction with good interpersonal relationships contribute to the proper management of the preschool classroom. Also, in our research, preschool teachers mainly use discussion with children of their class as a tool to solve each difficult situation and they consider the use of social rewards as a incentive to best results
