Toy libraries, places of learning and entertainment: the case of toy libraries in Greece (Master thesis)

The present study refers to the institution of toy libraries at a global level. The aim of the study is to highlight the importance of toy libraries in the countries that are existing. The main part of this study is based on bibliographic information about toy libraries around the world. These data refer to conceptual indemnification of toy libraries and their characteristics. In addition, there are references to the historical evolution of toy libraries in foreign countries. Also, examples are given on the way toy libraries operate in many countries. Moreover, this study emphasizes on pedagogical and social meanings of toy libraries. In the second part of this study there are data about toy libraries in Greece and their characteristics. The research on Greek toy libraries is based on questionaries’. The questionaries were constructed by the researcher, because there are no available measures for this research. In this research three toy libraries participated. The results of this study highlight the problems which deal the Greek toy libraries and the need to set up more toy libraries in Greece, because of their benefits for children, parents and the community
