The school director's contribution to the configuration of a good school climate through his actions to cope with school bullying (Master thesis)

This paper investigates the contribution of the school unit’s director to the configuration of good school climate, as it is demonstrated by the school leader’s actions to face the phenomenon of school bullying. In particular, the first part includes a theoretical approach of the above concepts, focusing on where they meet. Initially, the school director is being studied as a factor of school efficiency. Furthermore, there is a discussion about the concept of the school climate, in the composition of which important role plays the school director. Then, the phenomenon of school bullying is presented as a factor of disruption of the good school climate and also it is investigated how the school director contributes to maintain the balance in the school environment and to remove the elements that endanger the quality of the school climate. Regards to the second part, the empirical one, which deepens in the above topic, through semi-structured interviews that take place to School Leaders and also to Primary Education Teachers. From this specific research effort, it appears that the school director’s way of managing decisively influences the formation of the school climate. Additionally, it is noted that the factors which compose a positive school climate, at the same time, function dissuasively against the occurrence of intimidating incidents. Finally, the dominant role of the school head director in the management of the phenomenon of school bullying is confirmed, also the need for the school leader's support and intervention in various intimidating incidents is recognized by the teachers and at last is noted the absence or the gradual reduction of the victimization rate in school units where the school director takes over an active role in the management of this phenomenon
