Field trips and their impact on students’ learning: a theoretical and empirical approach (Master thesis)

The present dissertation aims to investigate the impact of Field trips on student learning. In the theoretical part of this thesis, the meaning of experience, learning and it’s forms are approached and theories about Constructivism are mentioned. In addition, the bibliography of the field trips is presented. The four stages of field trips’ implementation and their possible obstacles are described with details and moreover the contribution of field trips and the relevant legislature in Greece are highlighted. In the empirical part of this thesis, the views of regarding the field trips and their impact on learning are investigated through semi-structured interviews. The findings of the survey may be useful to primary school teachers and other researchers. In the present research it is proven that the contribution of field trips is undoubtful and their implementation is necessary for qualitative upgrade of education. In addition, it is proven that teachers’ training about field trips is insufficient and need for deeper research investigation into this field is highlighted
