Κουκούμη, Βασιλική/ Koukoumi, Vasiliki

Alki Zei is one of the most important greek writers, has been translated in many languages and rewarded for her offer in Literature. Mainly she addresses to children and displays a different confrontation of the child in the modern after Civil war society. The autobiographical clue, the immediacy and the humor can be considered as characteristics of her writing project, which always make it interested and often topical. The clue that connects all of her writing projects is her effort to reveal continually the truth to the little readers, so to help them understand the reality· every child as future citizen has to be informed and prepared with the proper moral, ideological and mental equipment. The writer dares to speak in her texts about political ideology and also to motivate children to judge the reality and finally to cause them a reaction. The hypothesis of her writing projects is usually located in troubled political and social historical situations, such as the dictatorship of Ioannis Metaxas, the Occupation and the Civil War, without skipping to make references to the living conditions and the everyday life of the simple people, besides they are the source of her inspiration. Her heroes are moving in urban environments, where they lead a usual life, until a sudden fact caused a change not only on their routine but also to themselves. It is then when the children-heroes show initiative and they are forced to mature. Inside the texts of Alki Zei Literature and History are having a permanent conversation
