Καραβαγγέλης, Χρήστος/ Karavangelis, Christos

This thesis research explores the history of education in upland Greece and more specifically at the school of Megala Vraggiana of Evritania in the 1950s - 1980s. The first part presents the economic, political and educational developments during 1950 - 1980. This study also describes aspects of the history of Agrafa, such as the life of the population during the Turkish occupation, the years of the civil war, and deepens further into the educational activity developed in the region in 1661, with the foundation of the "School of Gouva" or the "Ellinomousion of Agrafa". It then describes education in the years of the National Resistance, but also in later years. Information on the living and working conditions of teachers in the area is also provided. In the empirical part, through research of school archive material and data collection through interviews, aspects of education in the area are emerging. The most important findings that emerged from the survey are information on school curricula, on the school library, on pupils' disease prevention issues, on the school education staff, on student run-off, and on the working and living conditions of teachers in the area
