The 4th Primary School of Komotini (Master thesis)

The present study aims at presenting the history and function of the 4th Primary School of Komotini analytically, as it results after investigating the school archives from 1988 to today. More specifically, this study aims at examining the course of the specific school from 1988 to the beginning of the 21st century, its composition of students, their adapting to the school environment, the educational updates of the school teachers, the innovative programs that were carried out, the evaluation of the educational work, the role of the school in the area of Culture and its connection to the local society. The archive research lasted from November 2018 to April 2019, during which all the school books of the archive were studied. The results of the research showed that for many years, the 4th Primary School of Komotini shared the same building as the 3rd Primary School of Komotini. The problems caused by this co-existence led to the construction of a new building for the 4th Primary School. Throughout the years, the 4th Primary School went through a lot of changes concerning its function, the number of its permanent working posts, its name and its composition of students. The 4th Primary School has taken various measures for the adaptation of the students to the school environment and the reduction of school violence and bullying, which are characteristics of the 21st century. The school serves the demands of modern education, adopting innovative programs into the daily teaching practice. Its stuff is updated constantly and evaluates the effectiveness of the educational work offered to students. The 4th Primary School of Komotini contributes to Culture in many ways, promoting institutions, traditions, culture and customs of Greece as well as of other countries. Finally, the teachers present their activities to the parents of the students and the inhabitants of Komotini while simultaneously inform them about current issues, thus connecting the school with the local society.
