The urban environment in children’s books of Greek and foreign authors in the last decade for children between the ages of four and seven (Bachelor thesis)

Ηλιάδου, Αλεξάνδρα/ Τάτση, Αντωνία/ Iliadou, Alexandra/ Tatsi, Antonia

In this project children-stories with environmental content about the cities were analysed. The way that the urban environment and the environmental problems modern cities face are presented was broadened. The environmental problems were examined so as to catalogue the causes, their negative consequences and the ways of dealing with them. Simultaneously the heroes of the stories and role they play in the creation and the confrontation of the urban environmental problems were recorded. The main environmental problems that were brought up in the analysed stories are soil contamination, water and air pollution as well as noise pollution, the greenhouse effect, the extinction of the species and deforestation (reduction of the green areas). In most of the books that were analysed the causes and the negative effects are presented and are proposed ways of facing the issues that are examined. The heroes of the fairy-tales are either human beings or any other species with human-like features.
