A program to teach Greek in bilingual children at Kindergarten in Alexandroupolis with the support of psychomotor, musical and theater activities (Bachelor thesis)

This thesis is an attempt, in creating a special teaching program, to achieve knowledge of the Greek language, for children of pre-school age, who are part of the Muslim minority of Thrace. The teaching program is characterized as special since it incorporates activities of psychomotor and musical theatre, which have never before been used for the education of bilingual preschool children. Having defined the goal of this thesis, I began by studying and defining the bilingual phenomenon. Studying and defining the bilingual phenomenon, as well as the study of the history of the minority was necessary and important since it allowed an insight on the difficulties and peculiarities of the thesis research field. Next, I perused the interventions made for pre-school children from the Muslim minority, by students of the department (the interventions were made, as my own, in the area of Alexandroupolis), I proceeded in the detailed description of my research and also of the pre-school venue, in which my research will be implemented. During the description of my research it was necessary to define the educational program I submit by stating the educational tools I will use such as psychomotor, music, theater. While, during the description of the preschool venue, it was necessary to report also on the educational level and in-class relationships of the attending children. The above mentioned reports are (in my opinion), the most important chapters of this thesis, since in those reports the different educational model, I propose is described and defined. Also, the difficulties arising in the classroom, between children of different language background, are made clear. Following the presentation of the educational program and the preschool venue, the details of the educational program and the refinement of the spontaneous and organized activities were established. The educational tools used were as stated above psychomotor, music and theatrical games. The last part of my research is the evaluation of the educational program. In this part a report is made, in detail, on the way an educational program that caters to preschool children, is evaluated. Also the response the program received by the children taking part in it is included in detail. A summary of the final conclusions is also included.
