Η λειτουργία του πραξιακού μηχανισμού (Master thesis)

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to observe in depth the praxis system in different diagnostic categories, such as acquired apraxia after stroke and dyspraxia manifested in children with neurodevelopmental disorders, while focusing on the interpretation of acquired apraxia after stroke, through interpretations and considerations of developmental dyspraxia. Exploring the likelihood of common signs in the manifestation of symptoms, and hence the possible common function of the praxis system, could shed light on the "mysterious" mechanism of praxis. At the same time, the in-depth analysis of praxis disturbances post stroke may provide useful information for the development of more comprehensive assessment protocols and therapeutic approaches. Method: Four groups of subjects were studied. The first group consisted of six adult patients with post stroke apraxia due to left hemispheric lesion. The second group consisted of five children diagnosed with Specific developmental disorder of motor function- Dyspraxia - F82. The third and fourth group consisted of age-matched control subjects. All four groups of subjects were observed in trials of pantomime, imitation, tool use and specific daily living activities. For each task, the type of errors performed by the subjects was also recorded. Results: No significant differences were found in the incidence and type of errors made among adults with apraxia and children with dyspraxia. An increased frequency was recorded in the execution of spatial errors between the groups. In order to fully assess apraxia, it is essential to observe patients in daily living activities as well as to assess the type of errors they perform. Conclusions: Patients with apraxia and children with dyspraxia exhibit similar symptoms in pantomime, imitation, real tool use and in activities of daily living.
