Cultural landscape and experiential educational practices (Master thesis)

The purpose of this master dissertation is to study and inquire the cultural landscape of Thrace and its connection with Orpheus myth, in order to use this frame for experiential educational practices. The theoretical part of this essay attempt to approach issues about culture and landscape, Thrace and cultural landscape, Thraci-an mythology and Orpheus. The empirical part presents three experimental work-shops developed in five stages and in alternative learning environment with primary school students (3d grade) as participants, who have prior knowledge of Orpheus myth during History lessons. The workshops attempt to answer to the three research questions: how the cultural landscape and Orpheus myth interact with students, how experiential learning can be used to emphasise to the cultural landscape throughout the ages and what kind of experimental educational form could lead middle age stu-dents to understand cultural landscape through Orpheus myth. The results of obser-vation and context analysis illustrate that cultural landscape can interact with stu-dents as a daily experience and as a part of knowledge based on learning environ-ments. The pedagogical design also indicated that experiential educational practices developed with stages, ensure appropriate conditions to knowledge with meaning and to deep understanding of cultural landscape. This master dissertation optimise to contribute to experiential learning and experiential educational practices.
