Οπή ωχράς κηλίδας (Master thesis)

Ντινιώτη, Τρισεύγενη

The macular hole is a condition in which a gap is created as a hole in the retina in the macular region. This hole is created by the rupture of the macular such drafts around it. In the early stages of the disease, the central vision shows turbidity and deformation. In later stages, the distinguishing central scotoma appears. Even if the macula is completely destroyed, the patient doesn't entirely lose the vision. Despite the fact that, the peripheral vision remains unaffected. The presentation may be with impairment of central vision in one eye, or as a relatively asymptomatic deterioration, first noticed when the fellow eye is closed or at a routine sight test. The diagnosis becomes through the funduscopy and the optical coherence tomography (OCT). Specifically, OCT considerably facilitates differential diagnosis between full-thickness holes, partial-thickness holes, psefdoopes from epiretinal membrane and informal holes partial thickness from cystoid macular edema. The OCT enables accurate assessment of the stage macular hole and the quantification of the scale damage. Noteworthy is the fact that preoperative hole size associated with anatomical restoration and improvement of visual acuity. The most effective treatment option is vitrectomy since many times the findings of the OCT are the key to the design of the surgery. In preparing its work is the presentation of so many of preoperative exams and postoperative results, taking into account the health history of the patient, visual acuity, staging of disease and attendant existing and non lesions with retinoscopy. The hole is closed in up to 100% of cases and visual improvement occurs over the course of many months in 80-90% of eyes. The OCT imaging before and after vitrectomy helps to obtain the results. The conclusions highlight the specific nature of the disease, in addition to the role of OCT in diagnosis and management of vitreomacular disease.
