Glaucoma is one of the leading causes of acquired blindness worldwide. It is characterized by loss of retinal ganglion cells and visual field deficits .Glaucoma progression can be seen using a series of structural and functional examinations of the optic nerve and optic tract. Functional testing typically involves automated visual field testing. The VF protocols used to monitor glaucoma progression are Guided Progression Analysis (GPA.Carl Zeiss Meditec) ( Global Indices Trend Analysis (MD / PSD / VFI) as well as the Pointwise linear regression (PLR) trend analysis. Structural testing of glaucoma includes OCT evaluation of the peripapillaryRNFL (pRNFL), optic nerve head (ONH), and macular ganglion cell parameters. The individual parameters are the average thickness of pRNFL, Bruch membrane opening-minimum rim width (BMO- MRW) and BMO-MRA (BMO based minimum rim area) as well as the thickness macular ganglion cell complex GCC and GCIPL. There is no gold standard test to evaluate glaucoma progression. It is estimated that VF provides more information on established glaucoma and in particular on middle to advanced disease . OCT, on the other hand, is considered to be more sensitive to detecting the progression at earlier stages of the disease .It is advisable to use VF and OCT together to monitor the disease, as this can detect disease progression more often than using each method separately
