Perceptions of students of the Department of Education Sciences in Early Childhood of the Democritus University of Thrace regarding climate change and response to the prospect of sustainability (Master thesis)

Climate change is one of the most important problems of our time. The effects of climate change are expected to affect many aspects of people's daily lives. In order to address this, it is necessary to take measures at international, state and private level. Each individual citizen can contribute to mitigating climate change and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Individual action is considered as important as taking measures at global level. The purpose of this work is to investigate the knowledge of the students of the Department of Education Sciences in Early Childhood of the Democritus University of Thrace on climate change and the necessity they consider to characterize the various actions to combat it, as well as their views on sustainable development and the ways in which it can be achieved. The sample of the survey was 100 students who have taken the course of Environmental Education. A questionnaire with closed-ended questions was used to collect the data. According to the results of the survey, the most important characteristics that influence students' views on climate change are the year of study, the educational level of parents, the place of residence and participation in an environmental group outside the university. In particular, fourth-year students, those who come from university-educated parents and those who live in a city and / or participate in an environmental group outside the university seem to be more familiar with the concept of climate change and show more interest in the environment over the rest.
