Investigation of the problems related to the material and technical infrastructure in the public kindergartens in the city of Alexandroupolis (Bachelor thesis)

The purpose of this study is to investigate the situation prevailing in the kindergartens of Alexandroupolis and Feres, through the eyes of kindergarten teachers that are working in these institutions, regarding the problems related to the infrastructure and the building installations, in order to highlight some of those, that are related to the comprehensive promotion, development and safety of the children. A survey was conducted in sixteen kindergartens in the city of Alexandroupolis and one in Feres, using mostly the questionnaire method. Furthermore, in a smaller part of our survey, influenced by participatory method, we use paintings as a tool of our research. A total of thirty-three kindergarten teachers answered the questionnaires, while in regarding of the drawings, we used nine from the total sample. The results of the research show that the material and technical infrastructure of the kindergartens we examined, contributes effectively to the comprehensive development of infants, as the research shows that most kindergartens do not face any problems of material and technical infrastructure, so they do not really need any interventions. The majority of the kindergartens are housed in relatively new facilities with a few exceptions. However, these spaces are quite small in proportion to the number of children so they do not serve their needs. Also, from the sample of kindergartens that we examined, it appears that the majority of them fulfills the basic requirements related to the health and safety of the children in the kindergarten. However, it is unfortunate that almost all kindergartens do not have the proper infrastructure for children with disabilities. Finally, as far as the pedagogical material is concerned, it seems that in most of the cases it is sufficient and in good condition, however both, the kindergarten teachers and the children emphasize its antiquity.
