Ο ρόλος της οικογένειας ως φροντιστής στην υποστήριξη ογκολογικών ασθενών αρχικού σταδίου (Master thesis)

Σιβούδη, Βάγια - Μαρίνα

In recent decades, the growing manifestation of various types of cancer in the global population and its development often in a long -term disease has given the trigger for a multitude of research on the causes and consequences of this disease at a variety of human nature. The present study aimed at investigating the possible relationship between the quality of life of the cancer patients who receive palliative care from their family and their level of exhaustion, as well as the effect of their social and demographic characteristics on the event of possible stress on four sections of daily life. These were personal/physical status, social/family, emotional and general functionality. The study involved 35 patients, 22 women and 13 men. The quality of life was studied through the "FACIT-Pal" questionnaire. Significant correlations have resulted in all four areas examined with moderate-low levels of exhaustion, and emotional state and general functionality were affected by sex with men at higher levels of exhaustion. On the contrary, there was no effect of age in any field. The most important finding, however, had to do with the educational level, as it appeared that the higher educational level causes higher levels of exhaustion of personal fitness. The aforementioned findings confirm the existence of a relationship between the quality of life and the social and demographic characteristics with the manifestation of some level of exhaustion in patients who are in an early stage of cancer.
