Λαμπούδης, Ζήσης/ Lampoudis, Zisis

This case study aims to illustrate secondary education teachers’ views from Eastern Macedonia and Thrace on the difficulties they face in implementing Environmental Education programmes in Special Education schools. General issues of the environment as well as the environmental problems are mentioned. Environmental Education and Special Education are described and their relationship is presented, as well as the main difficulties faced by teachers who implement environmental programmes. For the purpose of this study a questionnaire was designed and administered, through the Google Forms platform, to 138 middle and high school teachers. The results of the study have shown that teachers understand that environmental problems have increased considerably and that is why it is necessary to grow environmentally minded citizens, especially from very young ages, and it seems that environmental programmes are helping to a significant extent in this direction. More specifically for the Special School students, environmental programmes are proving, according to their opinion, to be particularly beneficial as they become more creative, and cultivate important skills. However, there are many difficulties faced by Special Education teachers, but these difficulties are not able to prevent them from undertaking such programmes, focusing at the same time on the need for appropriate training and logistical support in Special Education schools.
