Analysis of inflammatory markers in the brain of transgenic mouse models of Alzheimer’s disease (Bachelor thesis)

It is an undeniable fact that neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s, tend to affect aging individuals. To be able to assess aging as a risk factor in such pathological conditions, research needs to initially focus on the processes governing the healthy aging brain. To shed some light in current neuroinflammatory topics, this thesis aims to detect the morphological differentiations of mouse microglia during healthy aging. These alterations in structure phenotype are expected to be accompanied with altered functions of the CNS resident immune cells. Bearing in mind that neurodegeneration is more prominent in females, microglia are also examined for sexual dimorphism.
