Ψαρράς, Πασχάλης/ Psarras, Paschalis

The role of nursing staff in the care of a patient has been proven for many years. In the treatment of the patient with a stroke, nurses take on active duties from the moment the patient arrives at the Hospital and the ED until the discharge. In the ED, nurses are responsible for the immediate recognition of a stroke, its evaluation with corresponding scales (NIHSS, mRS, FAST), the initial care of the patient with placement of peripheral veins and the administration of fluids and drugs and the taking of history and blood samples for laboratory tests. Along the way, the transfer of the patient for imaging tests, the initiation of IVT and MT are procedures in which the nursing staff has a decisive role. The frequent control of the neurological image and the VS, the administration of drugs, the handling of surgical materials, the management of sedation, the safe entry and exit of the patient from the surgical room and the prevention and treatment of emergency situations are some of the tasks of nurse of the Stroke Team. Finally, the care of a patient with stroke continues in the Stroke Unit or the Neurological Department , where nursing duties are increased and equally important.
