Παρμάκης, Χρυσόστομος/ Parmakis, Chrysostomos

Stroke is one of the most important health problems and is associated with high morbidity rates worldwide. However, it is treatable if the medical team is adequately prepared. The aim of this paper is to highlight the role of the nurse in the care of the patient with a stroke, especially in the first 24 hours. A literature review of articles in PubMed, Google Scholar databases was performed. The results of the study showed that the role of the nurse in the first 24 hours is mainly related to identifying signs, performing tests and monitoring vital signs and the patient's condition in general. In conclusion, a nurse who has the appropriate knowledge and skills is a valuable member of the treatment team for patients with ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke.
