The role of early rehabilitation in stroke unit patients (Master thesis)

Μητσοστεργίου, Πανωραία/ Mitsostergiou, Panoraia

Stroke is a common disabling condition, but multidisciplinary approach that is provided in stroke units can reduce mortality and improve overall recovery. The role of early rehabilitation is increasingly emerging as an important part of the therapeutic process after stroke and continues to be further strengthened over time. Studies show that early mobilization "takes advantage" of the therapeutic window when maximum plasticity presents and rehabilitative intervention appears to be most beneficial. The optimal timing of application and intensity of the rehabilitation program are important issues that have not been fully determined and require further research. Modern technology seems to offer guided rehabilitation in the acute stage after stroke, providing intensive, repetitive, and targeted rehabilitation.
