Religion in Thrace during the hellenistic and roman times (Master thesis)

The present diploma thesis focuses on the body of beliefs, worship practices, deities and celebrations of Thrace during the period of its Roman conquest. In the effort to study the presence of the Roman religion, this research is obliged to take into account not only the determination of the geographical area of ancient Thrace but also the tribes that constituted it, their language, the historical background of the Roman conquest, as well as the events of the second Greek Colonization in Thrace, which formed the basis for the subsequent relations of the region with the rest of Greece. A very important part of the analysis of the historical field is covered by the political and social relations between Greeks and Thracians, as these were highlighted through the spread of Greek cults in Thrace. In the field of political history, it is of great interest to study the relations of Rome with its provinces and specifically Thrace, as well as the behavior of the Roman administrative system towards the existing cities.
