Stroke is one of the most common causes of death worldwide. Stroke can cause a wide range of disability and also have a greater impact on disability than other chronic diseases. Early initiation of mobilization is an important intervention in patients after stroke. Early mobilization aims to reduce the risk of medical complications after stroke. The purpose of this study is to review the literature in order to determine according to the literature the time period in which early mobilization is applied after a stroke, in fact to answer how early mobilization can be initiated. A literature review was performed in Pubmed, Google scholar and PEDro databases where studies related to early mobilization in patients after stroke were selected. Some researches reports as very early mobilization, mobilization where it begins within the first 24 hours from the onset of symptoms. In others, mobilization begins after the first 24 hours of the onset of symptoms. Some clinical guidelines for management of stroke state that mobilization should begin within the first 24 hours of the onset of symptoms, while others state that mobilization may begin much earlier if there are no contraindications or in cases where patients need little or no help to mobilize. In conclusion, interesting data emerged from the literature review. Studies with a mobilization protocol before 24 hours from the onset of stroke symptoms have either not reached clear conclusions or have shown a trend toward poorer patient outcomes. Studies where mobilization started immediately but after 24 hours, reporting an improvement in patient functionality, without an increase in complications, or did not show, prove the effectiveness of such a protocol.
