Vascular risk factors and prognosis after stroke (Master thesis)

Purpose.The purpose of this study is the registration, classification and analysis of the risk factors and prognosis of patients, aged >16 years, with ischemic stroke, who were treated in the emergency department of General Hospital of Komotini and hospitalized at department of internal medicine during the period 01/01/2020 to 31/12/2020 Materials-Method This is a clinical epidemiological retrospective study (non-interventional) at Komotini General Hospital. The treatment of the cases in the emergency department and in the the Department of Internal Medicine was done according to the ESO and AHA/ASA guidelines 1,2. and the hospital’s capability. The data collection for the study was done from the files of hospitalized patients while the data processing was done with the SPSS Statistics 26. Results A total of 87 patients (88.8%) with ischemic stroke 1 patient (1%) with hemorrhagic stroke 8 patients with transient ischemic attack ( 8,2%) and 2 patients (2.0%) with hemorrhagic transformation were recorded. Conclusion The study of the risk factors of stroke from General Hospital of Komotini helps to a better understanding, and treatment of the patients, as well prevention.In the classification of the various types of stroke, we recorded a high percentage of ischemic strokes with the most frequent non-modifiable risk factors being gender and age, while among the modifiable risk factors arterial hypertension and diabetes mellitus.
