School bullying (Master thesis)

Δαλακούρα, Κωνσταντινιά/ Dalakoura, Konstantinia

School bullying and violence among students is a form of aggressive behavior with serious implications for the child's emotional development and the learning process, while equally important social ramifications of the phenomenon emerge. Given the high prevalence and negative consequences associated with engaging in bullying behaviors, this thesis discusses the issue of school bullying from a sociological perspective and the ethical issues raised. For this purpose, a systematic literature search was carried out and four distinct parts were created. Specifically, in the first part an attempt was made to provide a comprehensive conceptual view of the phenomenon of bullying, the persons involved in the manifestation of bullying behaviors were described and the forms of school violence in Greece and the causal factors that have been linked from time to time to this phenomenon were presented. In the second part, the social dimensions of the phenomenon were investigated, by looking at power relations, social violence and aggression. In the third part, the moral implications of the phenomenon were presented. Finally, in the fourth and last part, the needs to deal with school bullying were recorded and possible ways to prevent it were examined, taking into account the social and moral implications.
