Φθηνή και καθαρή ενέργεια (Master thesis)

Ράλλη, Άννα Βασιλική

The ever-increasing intensity and frequency of extreme weather events that our planet has been facing in recent years, affect economic, social and environmental development and make it necessary to take collective measures to address the phenomenon of climate change and promote sustainable development. This implies the complete exemption from the production and consumption of polluting fossil fuels which is the main cause of climate change as a result of human actions. Under this light, this thesis will analyze the reasons why access to cheap, reliable and sustainable energy for all, i.e. Sustainable Development Goal 7 of the 2030 Agenda, is the only way to the green energy transition. In addition, the interrelationship that exists between the Goals of the Agenda will be examined, in order to pursue the implementation of Goal 7, through a holistic approach that will highlight all the individual aspects of sustainability. An important contribution to this effort is the international energy law and the rationalized sustainable policies of the states. In the context of the interconnection of the principle of sustainable development and international law, key international texts will be developed that establish this principle in international law. Additionally, in the effort to limit climate change and link this phenomenon with sustainable development, international conventions-Pillars, such as the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate, the Kyoto Protocol and the Paris Agreement, will be analyzed. This thesis begins with an assessment of the current state of affairs in the global energy sector. It then examines the economic, social and environmental disparities that exist in this area between developed and developing countries and the implications of this problem. It highlights the causes that led to the energy gap, highlighting the urgency of adopting renewable energy sources. In conclusion, this thesis supports the implementation of Goal 7, that is, cheap and clean energy for all, through a holistic approach to global energy governance guided by the principles of sustainability and equity.
