Teaching of swimming was integrated in Physical Education in Greece from the school year 2016- 2017. Swimming is taught in the third and where possible in the fourth grade of the Primary School by Physical Education teachers, mainly with a swimming specialty. The most important of the benefits of learning to swim is minimizing the risk of drowning and improving water safety. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of demographic characteristics of gender, age and years of service on risk assessment factors for the safety of the swimming course in Primary Education. The frequency of injuries, the type and location in which they occur were also investigated. The sample was 116 Physical Education teachers (53 men, 63 women) aged 17-59 who taught the course. The data collection was carried out with the questionnaire of Papadopoulou's master thesis (2016) modified and adapted for the specific research and measures the risk assessment in swimming pools. The questionnaires were distributed to the participants through their e-mail addresses using Google forms. Participants filled in the course safety questionnaire electronically. They responded to four-factor variables (design-control, riskidentification- problems, risk-identification-management, and education-training) and to health symptom and injury variables. According to the results, the risks are not recorded. Accidents usually occur in locker rooms and showers, due to slippery surfaces with more frequent head and finger injuries. A statistically significant difference was found in the risk identification-problems factor and age, and in the planning-control factor and years of service. In conclusion, the younger and the more experienced give more importance to safety. Also, there were not very frequent injuries in the pool, perhaps due to experienced and certified swimming instructors. Injuries to other areas may be due to incorrect facility design and/or lack of supervision due to lack of staff.
