Factors affecting growth in children, in extrarenal clearance (Master thesis)

CKD during childhood present with multiples clinical symptoms that affect patients’ morbidity and quality of life. Growth is significantly affected in children with CKD, especially at end stage kidney disease, because of uremia, acidosis, resistance to the actions of growth hormone, CKD-mineral bone disease. Monitoring the pediatric patient's growth is important, because in rapid growth rates during childhood and adolescence. The food components of Mediterranean Diet, appears to help and optimize the growth of healthy children but the evidence for children with CKD is lacking. This study aims to investigate the role of diet, including Mediterranean diet, through its components, to the growth of children with CKD. Literature review was performed in the following databases: PubMed, Cochrane Library and Google Scholar and in the publishing house Elsevier from 2010 to 2023. The findings on the role of Mediterranean diet in children with CKD are scarce to draw safe conclusions and highlight to need for further research in the future.
