Comic in pre-school and early school age: (Master thesis)

Βανδουλάκη, Σμαράγδα/ Vandoulaki, Smaragda

Using comic in preschool and early childhood is an exciting and creative approach to educating children. With the combined use of image and text, they pave the way for a multimodal experience that encourages imagination, language development and cross-cultural understanding. Research approaches the use of comic in education. Its pur-pose is to investigate whether and in what possible ways comic can be used for cross-cultural approaches in education. The activities created based on the comic "RABBIT & FOX: Friends forever and ever" (Beth Ferry and Gergey Dudas, Metaichmio 2021), were designed and adapted for the 3rd grade of Elementary School. They aim to encourage empathy, critical and reflective thinking, skills necessary for intercultur-al sensitivity, through complex issues such as friendship, respect, cooperation and ac-ceptance. In addition, the activities were designed to familiarize the student with com-ic and their characteristics, develop skills and combine visual literacy and creative writing subjects.
