Assessment of flood discharges of sub-basin 3 of the Nestos River (Master thesis)
Μαργαρίτης, Θεόδωρος
One of the major issues of modern society is the problem of plumbing services. There are not a few scientists who believe that floods occur because of climate change. Floods are natural phenomena, but they occur when the capacity of the drainage system, natural or man-made, cannot channel the volume of water produced by rainfall. The natural phenomena that cause flooding cannot be controlled, but the geological, geomorphological and soil conditions of the watershed can be modified by human intervention. In this particular work I try to focus and study the assessment of flood benefits in sub-basin 3 of the Nestos River. First of all, in this work, the definitions of the water cycle, the runoff, the watershed and all those processes that are part of the knowledge of flood phenomena were mentioned. In general, the present study presented the estimation of the flood benefits of the area through the HEC-HMS software. Discovering that all soil and subsoil data directly or indirectly affect the runoff and flooding of the area I began to be able to discern the magnitude of the problems created by potential fires and any change related to anthropogenic activity.
