The didactic use of the project method in the context of intercultural teaching in the multicultural secondary school. High school teachers’ perspectives in the Prefecture of Attica (Master thesis)

The Master's Thesis titled "Teaching Use of Project Method within the Framework of Intercultural Teaching in a Multicultural Secondary School: Educators' Perspectives from a Gymnasium in the Attica Region" aimed to investigate the perspectives of educators from a gymnasium in the Attica region regarding the use of the project method within the framework of intercultural teaching in a multicultural secondary school. The theoretical part of this study relied on both Greek and foreign-language literature, aiming to define intercultural teaching and specify the project method as a tool of intercultural teaching. The qualitative methodology was employed, utilizing semi-structured interviews and thematic content analysis, both qualitative and quantitative, as methods of data analysis. The findings highlighted the recognition of the short- and long-term contribution of intercultural teaching to teaching practices, the acknowledgment of significant challenges regarding method utilization, the necessity for continuous educator training in intercultural teaching methods as well as innovative, student-centered teaching practices in general, and the need for integrating student-centered teaching methods such as the project method into daily teaching practices. The key recommendations of this research include the interculturalization of curricula, continuous, qualitative, comprehensive educator training in intercultural teaching as well as other innovative, student-centered teaching methods, to ensure that educational practices align with the challenges and needs arising from the contemporary multicultural environment.
