Digital literacy and modern kindergarten: (Master thesis)

This Master's Thesis records and studies the opinions of teachers regarding digital literacy in modern multicultural Kindergartens, focusing on the case of two school units in the city of Komotini. In the framework of the specific objectives, the above were examined a) the definitions of literacy and digital literacy, b) the educational functions of digital literacy in terms of managing multiculturalism, c) the digital tools
used in multicultural schools, d) the institutional operating framework of Kindergarten, e) the composition of the students in the kindergartens of the Prefecture of Rodopi, f) the references made to the digital literacy of young children in the Curricula and the Guides for Kindergarten teachers, g) the digital tools proposed for the utilization and development of digital literacy, h) the teachers' opinions and proposals for the current situation and the improvement of the utilization of digital literacy in Kindergartens. Eleven active primary education teachers participated in the research through individual, semi-structured interviews which were, consequently, analyzed using the “thematic qualitative analysis” method. The results initially highlighted the teachers' views on the characteristics of modern kindergartens and the role of digital literacy in preschool education. Afterwards, they expressed their views on their digital readiness,
their training needs and the utilization of digital literacy and submitted proposals for improving the current situation.
