This paper deals with the issue of the unbundling of networks in EU and national legislation in the context of market liberalization through the law-making process of the three package deals of measures under the light of modern developments. The analysis delves into the unbundling of natural gas activities, with an emphasis on the types of unbundling. In addition, the valuable participatory action of ACER and RAE respectively is approached. Subsequently, the new perspectives and developments are investigated in light of the fourth package of measures for natural gas as well as the new legislative initiatives aimed at the future and European integration in the energy sector of natural gas.
