The use of drama techniques in music education and diversity: (Master thesis)

This dissertation explores the impact of using drama techniques to approach diversity in the context of a music lesson. The term “diversity” is used in this work as a framework for studying an intercultural environment. In this context, the theatrical techniques “Frozen image”, “Outline of the character”, “Ritual”, “Collective character”, “detection of thought and social situation,” “Day in the life of the character”, and “Pantomime” were used didactically. This research aimed to ascertain the participants' opinions regarding cultural diversity and the possibility of their change through their participation in theatrical and musical activities. The didactic intervention was carried out for primary school students in a conservatory, and the research method used was action research. The implementation of the intervention and the evaluation of the results showed the significant contribution of the applied drama techniques and music as a teaching subject in approaching cultural differences. In particular, it was found that drama techniques and music contributed to the students' expression in an experiential way and to the understanding of different dimensions of diversity and their acceptance. The techniques enhanced the cooperative interaction of team members, contributed to their creative expression, and awakened their interest.
