Νικολακάκου, Σοφία/ Nikolakakou, Sofia

This undergraduate thesis deals with the education system of Finland. The school is one of the most basic areas of socialization and is the mirror of the state. The establishment of such a successful educational system was created after many reforms and an important role was played by both governments and the need of citizens to improve their economic, cultural and daily lives. The changes that occurred after the end of the Second World War were drastic for the Scandinavian countries (Norway, Finland, Sweden, Denmark) and as it turned out to be appropriate. The student-centered school, the team spirit and the well-being of the students were prioritized. An important part of this success was the rigor in the conditions that would make a citizen, an educator. The state's effort to keep children and young people close to school is evident in the importance given to extracurricular activities in order to create children where they will be prepared for adulthood. In addition, importance was given to the facilitation of parents in terms of school hours and the subsequent creative employment of the students. Finland's education system has been widely researched and studied due to its strong reputation and successful results. The Finnish education system consistently ranks among the world's best in international comparisons and is widely recognized for its high-quality teaching, student-centred approach and focus on equality. Finland's education system is known for its innovative approach to assessment, which focuses on formative assessment and student self-assessment rather than high-stakes tests.
