This master’s thesis aims, through the research and review of relevant sources, to present elements and data referring to energy law, to outline the importance of energy, and to analyze matters relevant to the best understanding of its elements. Concepts of energy, and electricity in particular, are approached by research of their distinctive characteristics. This master’s thesis is an attempt to approach the fundamental goal of securing supply, the means and mechanisms necessary to ensure it and, in general, the liberalization of the energy market in the electricity sector by promoting and fostering competition. At the same time, the European Union’s policy on the energy sector is researched, as well as the means and mechanisms enforced. In parallel, there is a presentation of the functioning of electricity markets on national level, following the harmonization process of the Greek legislation to the provisions of the relevant Directives and Regulations. In particular, this thesis offers a comprehensive approach on Regulation 2019/941, which refers to the accomplishment of goals set out by the Energy Union, which, on their turn, focus on energy security, inter-state cooperation and solidarity in the energy sector, and the environmental and climate policy. In conclusion, this master’s thesis attempts to present several elements belonging to fields of energy law and energy, a field of invaluable importance.
