Perceptions of 5th and 6th grade students towards their participation in constructivist practices in physical education (Master thesis)

The aim of the present study was to examine the views of pupils of different age and gender
on their participation in teaching practices facilitating the active construction of their
knowledge during the course of physical education and in particular in (a) dance and
gymnastics,(b) games and skills, (c) personal engagement and (d) social co-operation.
Asecondary purpose was to test the internal reliability of the evaluation tool. A total of 210
pupils, 110 of the 5th grade and 100 of the 6th grade of whom 107 were boys and 103 were
girls from elementary schools in Northern Greece, participated. Children’s perceptions were
assessed with the Constructivist Teaching Practices Inventory in Elementary Physical
Education (CTPI-EPE) of Chen, Burry-Stock and Rovegno (2000), which was modified and
adapted for children of this age. Two-way anova was applied for data analysis. The results
did not show a statistically significant effect of age and gender on any factor. Reliability
