Tranexamic acid in endoscopic sinus surgery (Master thesis)

Μαραγκού, Χριστίνα/ Maragkou, Christina

Τhe use of tranexamic acid (TXA) in endoscopic sinus surgery has emerged as a significant tool for reducing bleeding and improving the quality of the surgical field. TXA, is a synthetic analogue of the amino acid lysine , characterized by antifibrinolytic activity. It effectively stabilizes formed blood clots, which helps to decrease hemorrhage during surgical procedures. Recent studies, including systematic reviews and meta-analyses, have demonstrated that TXA can significantly reduce blood loss and enhance visibility in the surgical field, making it clearer for surgeons. Overall, integrating TXA into the clinical practice of endoscopic sinus surgery appears to offer significant advantages in managing bleeding and achieving better visibility during the procedure
