Τhe Philosophy of the Aesthetic Education in the greek state (Doctoral thesis)

This thesis deals with the aesthetic values’ orientation of the Greek state as it is recorded through the course of the aesthetic education subjects from the first programs of 1834 until the period after 1974. The key role of education in the formation of cognitive concepts and values as well as in the cultivation of skills and abilities, constitutes the identification of the qualitative characteristics of the aesthetic crises cultivated in schools a topic of enduring importance. The analysis in this thesis starts with a brief bibliographic review of the terms involved in the concept of aesthetic education, having as main source Schools’ Timetables, Curricula and the literature on the history of education. Then, through historical research and content analysis method, this thesis proceeds with the recording of hours dedicated, the content and objectives of the art courses taught in kindergartens , primary and secondary education. Then the same recording method is followed for the teachers’ training. This research reviews the historical evolution of education, paying special attention to the educational reforms and the change of the teaching methods, focusing on events that have made a difference in the object of research interest, such as the Laboratory School. Finally, this thesis identifies the remarks concerning the time and the proportion of the courses, the comparative treatment of the set goals and the changes that each course has undergone in time are pointed out, in order to highlight, as a conclusion of the research, what aesthetic values permeate the official state policy over the period of interest.
