Energy security is a major factor of importance in every modern society and determines undoubtedly the energy policy of each society. Nowadays, more than ever, societies depend on the use of energy resources and energy consumption, so it is important to understand the various factors that affect energy security. Thus, due to the continuous increase in energy demand, energy security is a key issue for the European Union. The purpose of this thesis is to analyze the meaning of security energy supply or energy security, to examine the factors that affect energy security and the risks of its disruption, to present the EU’ s energy policy and examine its purposes, to present the primary and secondary energy law, the legislation on the energy security of oil, electricity and natural gas, to set out the priorities for energy security, specifically the contribution of renewable energy sources, balancing of energy supply and demand, the development of Trans-European Networks, investments and EU competition rules, and to draw general and specific conclusions, according to the questions/working hypotheses that will be raised.
