Ναθαναήλ, Γεώργιος/ Nathanail, Georgios
The present thesis examines the Greek traditional costume through its artistic depictions by Greek painters of the 19th century and its authenticity is based on the combination between folklore dress and painting. Its objective is to define the locality of the depicted dress with the use of a certain model. With this model, a comparison between the examined artwork paintings and the related available sources is achieved. The model is based on the triangulation of sources, with predefined criteria of the artworks selection, follows a specific methodology and it can be applied for a limitless quantity of examined artworks. Apart from the locality identification, by this application, remarks concerning the general ideological, economical, social and historical framework of that period can be concluded.
